Susan Ogilvy
Music Minister

Susan is delighted to join the worship team at First Christian Church and began her ministry here in March of 2023. She owns and operates an innovative music studio in Denton, TX for children of all ages. She holds a B.M.E. (‘71) and M.M.E (‘73) from the University of North Texas where she studied piano with Robert J. Rogers and Margaret Grubb. She was a full scholarship accompanist, studying voice with Grant Williams and accompanying the Chapel Choir at UNT for 4 years. Susan was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Sigma Alpha Iota, and played Harpsichord for the UNT Madrigal Singers.
She has written piano solos for Alfred Publishers, Stephens’ Development Co., and for the “Celebrate Piano!” method published by Frederick J. Harris (Canada). Susan and her husband Jim compose digital keyboard ensembles for their company, Ogilvy Music, located at SoSpace.com. She maintains a second website (OgilvyMusic.com) of training videos for teachers using the Clavinova, YAMAHA’s flagship Digital Piano, including compositions written specifically for the instrument. Her piano students have performed in Digital Keyboard Orchestras at national music conventions around the country. Her Senior Keyboard Orchestra has performed at the Denton Arts & Jazz Fest, special events at the Senior Center, and had even been the ‘pit orchestra’ for her children’s choir’s musicals at church!
Susan has traveled for seven years for YAMAHA Corporation of America training teachers how to use the Clavinova for the Clavinova Festival and in their studios. She is director of KETS (Keyboard Ensemble and Technology Seminar), a week-long seminar for piano teachers, worship musicians and music educators co-sponsored by YAMAHA, currently hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma. She is a state and national clinician and conducts digital concerts across the country. Susan has worked in the church for over thirty years conducting adult, youth, children and handbell choirs. She is a certified Kindermusik teacher and has been rehearsal accompanist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
